Imagine this scenario:
A miscreant thinking of robbing a home gets scared off by the presence of police in the neighborhood. How? With the use of machine learning techniques, cops have predicted that this area is prone to such home invasions at this particular time.
Sounds like science fiction? Well, it’s not. In fact, it’s reality. Cities like Chicago and Memphis have been using predictive analysis to reduce the rate of crime in their cities. And more cities are soon to follow.
Let’s take another scenario.
You suspect that you have a heart ailment. You enter your symptoms into a computer program. The program runs for a while and spits out the likelihood of whether you have the said ailment or not. If it’s a high likelihood, you go down to the doctor. If not, you save a trip to the doctor.
This is what machine learning and data analysis can do. And it’s happening now. More and more, such techniques have pervaded every part of our lives. So much so that we probably couldn’t imagine a world without such analysis being common place.
Think of websites like Amazon. Book recommendations that are eerily similar to your taste pop up. That’s another application of machine learning.
Of course, the piece de resistance of ML techniques is perhaps in search engine recommendations. Think of Microsoft Bing. How its top suggestions are exactly what you’d want to see. Given a particular search. 😉
I’m sure you can think of several other examples. Where machine learning and predictive analysis have made a real difference.
I’m also sure that a lot of you want to be a part of this revolution. And if you have already got your feet wet in this field, you want to take a deeper plunge. This is where we come in. To make your dreams into a reality.
