Unleashing bitcoin’s potential at Cryptothon 2017!

Recent laws passed in India marked demonetization as a nationwide event that had the public seeking out new sources of e-payments, online wallets and payment gateways. Bitcoin suddenly appeared on everyone’s radar being a relative source of income that appreciated like stocks did. India’s leading bitcoin service provider, Unocoin, jumped at the opportunity presented to create a one of a kind hackathon rewarding the most innovative ideas in bitcoin. The event? Cryptothon!

And what a hackathon it was!

Venturesity jumped at this unique opportunity to partner with Unocoin for a one-of-a-kind hackathon where bitcoin prizes were brought to the forefront. Saturday, the 8th of April, saw over 100 enthusiastic coders take time off from their busy schedules to make hacking the centre of their weekend. The location: 91springboard at Salarpuria Tower near Forum Mall.

We appreciate each and everyone of you!

The problem statement revolved around using any technology to build a web/mobile app to leverage the bitcoin potential. Eager minds started brainstorming the minute they were shown the problem statement as teams of coders put on their thinking caps to work out ideas. A little fuel for the brainstorming? Will ice cream do the trick? Why not – chilled ice cream was delivered to all participants to get them off their seats!

It serves to note the beauty of hackathons where high school students were on equal standing with developers and coders having nearly a decade of experience. Kudos guys! Age is no barrier when it comes to coding.

As participants settled into their grooves, the air was filled with bright ideas, hardwork and focused attention towards delivering the best possible idea to secure top spot at Cryptothon! Fuelled by yummy lunch and tea breaks courtesy of Unocoin, there was never a drop in excitement or productivity.

Almost 16 hours on, it came down to presentation time! Unocoin’s team of 3 coding team members were present as judges. 27 teams made their presentation on Sunday 9th April at 9:30am.

After 2 gruelling hours of competitive coding and presentations, it was finally time to announce the winners of Cryptothon:

Team #1 – Gizmo Geek, walked away with INR50k worth of bitcoin!

Team #2 – Dmaniax – INR 30k worth of bitcoin winners

Team #3 – Team Iron – Recipients of INR 20k worth of bitcoins

Even though many walked away empty handed, spritis were high as a sense of accomplishment filled everyone. Our coders understood what went missing in their presentations and ideas and vowed to come back with a vengeance in the next hackathon!

A big thanks to 91springboard for being amazing hosts and home to one of the coolest co-working spaces in India!

Till the next hackathon….  adios!
