Hack Camp Review: G.I.T. Belgaum

As part of our Ms. Hackers initiative powered by Microsoft Women in Tech, on the 28th of March, we held an all woman hack camp at Gogte Insitute of Technology, Belgaum.
This was the very first hack camp of this Women in Tech initiative, and we were understandably a bit nervous. But we had no cause to worry as the turnout exceeded our expectations. We had over a 100 women participating and the atmosphere was fantastic!

As part of the hack, the participants had to design and build a scientific calculator using front end technologies like Javascript, HTML 5 and CSS 3.  Siddharth Deshpande, who did an awesome in addressing attendees’ queries, was their mentor. In addition to the mentoring, the Ms. Hackers were required to go through the relevant course, Javascript Fundamentals for Absolute Beginners, which is part of Microsoft Virtual Academy.

The problem statement, which we formulated, was slightly open ended so as to encourage creativity (otherwise, we would get 100 identical looking calculators!). At the end of the hack, we had some outstanding submissions (now, instead of using the calculator on my desktop, I think that I will be using one of the calculators built by the G.I.T. students.).

Siddarth evaluated the submissions, and in the end,  the following 10 candidates were shortlisted for placement:

1. Samruddhi Borkar
2. Tanvi Palekar
3. Sudha Munnolimath
4. Dipali Patankar
5. Pallavi Hongekar
6. Pooja Joshikar
7. Aarti Kulkarni
8. Apeksha Kulkarni
9. Preeti Motebennur
10. Shraddha Naik

The top two winners of the hack were (drumroll, please!):

Second place: Preeti Motebennur
First place: Pallavi Hongekar

Congratulations to all the participants, and especially the winners. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
