As the curtain closed on Venturesity’s first big data hackathon we took stock of what we have gained: great partners to collaborate with and a passionate and phenomenal group of individuals who despite of roadblocks and sleep deprivation stayed up for the thrill of the chase.
Our ecosystem partner Microsoft Ventures very graciously offered us their office space to host the event. They have always been forthcoming and supportive in working with the startup and technology community in Bangalore. We feel proud to count them as our collaborators and look forward to working with them in the future. We were featured on Fever FM, our radio partner, they ran us during their Saturday evening radio slots.
Qubole set up a 20 node elastic hadoop cluster and provided their flagship cluster management and big data analytics platform for our participants to hack around with. With their support we were able to give our participants to a 300 gigabyte data set stored on the the Qubole cloud. Their partnership and collaboration went a long way in ensuring that this big data hackathon was actually a big data hackathon. We at Venturesity look forward to many many more opportunities to keep working with their team to make events like this happen.
We learned that there is a vibrant technology community willing to extend its hand and work with us to create and nurture talent and for us that is the most valuable thing we take away from this experience. We will be releasing the project code for the participants who gave the final presentations on github. Keep following our blog to catch profiles of the participating finalists and their projects.
We leave you with an infographic about the participant composition.
Until next time people, sayonara.
