Ola Appathon: Express Report

This past weekend (Feb 7th and 8th, 2015), we organized an “appathon” for Ola: the Ola Appathon. The response was overwhelming with over 1200 registrations. Due to space constraints, attendance was capped at 200. What was unusual about this hackathon as compared to our others was that the hackers, as it were, were compelled to form teams, either preformed or at the venue.  Team size was limited to a minimum of three members and a maximum of five.  All in all, 55 teams participated with most hacking all through the night.  The deadline for submissions was at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning with the judging commencing shortly thereafter.  Teams were competing for a total cash prize of INR 5 lakhs, and for hiring opportunities.

The top 8 teams were required to present their ideas to the crowd in order to compete for the user choice award which was chosen by voice vote.

The winning team, decided by the judges as per stringent judging criteria, comprised of four members, who walked away with the grand prize of 1.5 lakhs, as well as Rs. 5000 each in Ola coupons. They also received job offers on the spot and will be joining Ola shortly.

A detailed report will soon follow so stay tuned…
