Presenting To You The Itinerary of The Yatra Hack

A lot can happen in 24 hours! The Yatra hack, held in the first week of April, proved that, indeed, a day was enough to come up with kickass products that can change the face and direction of a business. Held across three cities – Bangalore, Delhi, and Hyderabad – simultaneously, the Yatra Hack was one of a kind. How? Well, apart from opening its doors to external competitors, the hack also invited company employees to participate in the challenge.

Around the world, internal hackathons are proving to be the next big thing in the industry. Increasingly, companies are seeing hackathons as an opportunity to encourage new ideas and put a creative spin on problem-solving among their employees. It’s also a great way to push teams to come together and work together. Given the restricted time period, it also adds a dollop of excitement to projects and fuels employees to chase goals at top-speed. While the internal hackathon idea is fast catching the fancy of companies in the West, India is still to embrace the idea. So, Yatra’s hack will go a long way in forging new paths, we think.

On the 1st of April, at around 4.30 in the evening, the gates opened at Yatra offices in all three cities. While 60 external candidates turned up for the Bangalore hack, around 25 came by for the Delhi event. After a round of presentations, the internal and external teams got right into it and the hack kicked off. You could smell the excitement in the air, and it stayed put through snacks and dinner.

The next day, after breakfast, the judges took their places. After hearing out all the teams, the judges zeroed in on the top 13 to go through to the final round. In the evening, shortlisted demos from all three cities were live-streamed, and Sharat Dhall (President, Yatra), Manish Amin (CIO, Venturesity), and Himanshu Verma (CTO, Venturesity) took a look at the demos.
